MAP - Morris Afterschool Program

Founded in 2013, the MAP program began as a partnership between PCM and the Morris School District (MSD) to provide after-school tutoring, activities and hot meals to 1st graders. The program has since expanded to include other Morristown churches and other grades. In October 2016, we welcomed about 20 second graders back to their 2nd year with MAP.

The program operates on Mondays from October through May. The children are bussed by MSD to the church by 3:30pm for a snack and activity followed by dinner with their tutors and then, instruction. The evening ends at 6pm. Each child is paired with the same tutor for two years.

MAP helps to fulfill our church's mission to offer a safe place for children to play, learn, love and be loved. For information or to volunteer as high school helper, tutor or cook, contact Jan.

Morris School District Honors MAP

In 2014, the Morris School District (MSD) school board commended PCM's Morris Afterschool Program for the excellent work MAP volunteers are doing with 1st grade students from the district. Upon accepting the award, Betty Darcy, co-director of MAP, acknowledged the dedication of MAP volunteers - cooks, tutors and high school helpers - who work together to make a difference in the life of a child and help to fill in any gaps for young learners in our community.

"[We] encourage every child to meet success. We know we are having an impact on our MAP students when one wishes "that Tuesday was every day of the week."
