Helping Joplin Rebuild

In 2011, Joplin, Missouri was hit by the deadliest tornado in the U.S. since 1936. The devastating twister lasted all of six minutes and cut a swath 3/4 of a mile wide and 13.8 miles long, killing at least 153 people with many more injured. Weeks later, the scene around Joplin had not changed as families, businesses and authorities, local and national, faced the monumental task of rebuilding a community and helping individuals rebuild their lives and hopes.

In 2011 and 2012, PCM sent teams to help with debris clean-up in conjunction with AmeriCorps, Presbyterian Disaster Relief, Southern Missouri University and the First Presbyterian Church in Joplin.
