SUMMARY:Harmonium Choral Society’s Spring Concert: “Ride the Storm”
DESCRIPTION:Did you know, in addition to repairing pianos and singing in choirs, one of our own Chancel Choir singers and PCM members, David Thomson, also creates choral compositions?! And this June 6 – 7 one of his pieces, “Ride the Storm” is being performed as part of Harmonium Choral Society’s Spring Concert. In fact, “Ride the Storm” is the theme of the concert!\nDavid’s piece is a setting of words written by Alexander Hamilton in a letter to President Washington where he theorizes about the risk to our democracy of a tyrant in control of the reins of power. But several more of our founding fathers and mothers are represented in the concert as well. Here’s Harmonium’s description of the concert:\nRide the Storm celebrates America’s revolutionary ideals and today’s pressing questions of identity, justice, and unity. Featuring powerful new settings of texts by Alexander Hamilton, Abigail Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine and Lafayette—brought to life by composers including David Thomson, Melissa Dunphy, Jackson Berkey, Laurel Luke Christensen, Mark Miller and the winning composers of our 29th annual NJ HS Choral Composition Contest.\nSaturday, June 6 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, June 7 @ 3:00 pm\nMorristown United Methodist Church,\n50 S Park Pl, Morristown, NJ 07960\nYou can purchase tickets in advance at https://www.harmonium.org/gettickets/ride-the-storm\nHarmonium is a great choir directed by Dr. Anne Matlack with a wide ranging and eclectic repertoire of styles and genres.\n
