A Prayer for the Los Angeles Wildfires

A Message from Audrey

Dear friends,

This week during worship, we will be considering the second installment of our Worship + 2 sermon series. As we choose to deepen our faith life together, we select worship plus one area to breathe in and deepen our spirituality and one area to serve (equaling two!) This week, we will dive into breathing in and how we can nourish our souls. One way that we often breathe in to choose to pray. Prayer will look different from person to person, making our faith lives so beautifully unique. Today, as we witness the fires in Los Angeles and the destruction they are causing, we offer this prayer to our wider community of faith:

God of our lives,

You hold us in the palm of your hand,
Yet, we live on an earth which is hurting so deeply.

You call us to breathe in your Spirit into our lives,
Yet we can’t breathe in air filled with fire and smoke.

We ask, God, that as we hold both you, our very hope, along with the tragedy of our hurting earth, you tenderly cradle our fragile lives in your hands.

Hold our community in Los Angeles as they experience the loss of family members, homes, businesses, buildings, and livelihoods.

Offer strength to the firefighters and first responders as they tirelessly contain fires. Watch over them and hold their lives.

May the winds slow.
May lives be saved.
May hearts be comforted.
May help instead of harm prevail.

God, may the fires be quenched, and when the burning ceases, may your love flood in and comfort those whose lives are forever changed.

Hold us, hold our earth, hold our community, God, as only you can today and always.

Amen

Blessings,
Audrey
