Church on the Green |
The original wooden church was built in 1738 - 1740 on land donated by Benjamin Hathaway and John Lindsley. It became a hospital for troops during the American Revolution in 1777 – 1778. Tradition states George Washington knew the church and received holy communion from its Pastor, the Rev. Timothy Johnes in his orchard behind his parsonage.
