David’s conversation with Goliath.
Alexandra Mead | Reading: 1 Samuel 17:45-50
I have a sign in my office that says, “If God is for us, who is against us?” Romans 8:31. I look at this saying often, as it is a reminder to me that through our faith in God, nothing can stop us. Relying on God is how we get our strength and fortitude to tackle life here on earth.
In David’s conversation with Goliath, David is not afraid. He tells Goliath that he does not come with a sword or a spear; he comes in the “name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel.” David has no fear of this giant. He had faced lions and bears while protecting his sheep. God was with him then, and he would be with him now. David doesn’t hesitate.
The truth is that we have all of God’s strength available to us. We may feel weak in ourselves, but with God, when we lean on Him, we can accomplish great things. During this Lenten season, try to see yourself as David saw himself: strong and mighty with God beside you. Through God you can face the tasks set before you with joy, energy, and strength.
