From Repairs to Reflections: Our RISE Youth Mission Trip Experience

A Message from Kevin

Dear PCM Family,

Last week our youth group completed our annual RISE mission trip. We sent two teams this year to work on projects in Friendship, NY. Team 1 built a ramp leading to the homeowner’s front door and made some repairs on the roof over the front porch.

Team 2 replaced stairs on the homeowners’ porch and added some support for the existing porch, in addition to staining the porch. Our youth also shared meals, songs, and prayers during their time in Friendship and they composed thoughtful devotions and prayers which gave the RISE teams something to think about over meals and throughout their workdays. Although it’s only a short six-day trip just a few hours away – they come back with a whole new perspective on what it means to serve Christ (and hopefully some useful skills for helping out around the house!)

The most important part of RISE is the physical work we leave behind. A sturdy set of stairs or a ramp is life-changing to someone who is worried about being able to get in and out of their home. But perhaps equally as important is the laughter, companionship and, sometimes, even tears that we shared with homeowners who needed someone to share those moments with.

A special thanks to our team leaders, Chris, Theresa, Ken, and Nancy without whom this week would not have been possible, Wayne for his dedication to both RISE and our Youth, as well as the entire RISE Staff.
