The on-going wildfires and resulting humanitarian crisis for those in the entire Los Angeles area have us, once again, asking our community to reach out with compassion. We know that there are many needs, and the way to help from afar is with money. Your donation to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance fund can support an organization with experienced people in place to meet immediate and long-term needs.
We also ask each one of you to pray for the people of Los Angeles – that they may find shelter, that the fire crews are safe and able to continue their heroic work, and that on-going policy decisions are made to benefit the greatest number of people in the fairest way.
We ask for prayers from everyone at PCM for those who are still suffering in the war-torn country of Ukraine. We want prayers for the fragile peace unfolding between Israel and Gaza, and for all the people there who suffer from hunger, untreated medical issues, and so much uncertainty about what the future will bring for them. We pray for Lahaina, Hawaii, where only a year ago homes and businesses, and human lives, were so quickly destroyed. We hope people will pray for those in the Southeast who faced two major hurricanes this fall, many of whom continue to struggle after losing loved ones, homes, and possessions as winter arrives.
It is easy to jump from disaster to disaster with each news cycle. Major disasters like these need years of rebuilding and long-term institutional investment. The Outreach Committee researches charitable organizations so we can be confident our dollars from PCM are spent wisely and in a way that supports Jesus’ teachings of comfort for those who are most in need.
We believe the best way to contribute to relief in Los Angeles is to send contributions to Presbyterian Disaster Relief (PDA) for Southern California Wildfires. You can do so by:
- Giving online here
- Or write a check to PCM with Southern California Wildfires in the memo line. Mail the check to the church office (65 South Street, Morristown, NJ 07960), drop in the plate during worship, or bring it to the Parish House office during regular business hours.
Your prayers and financial contributions are so needed – thank you.
