What Gives You Hope?

A Message from Daniel

Dear PCM Family,

I’m thinking a lot about hope this week. (Spoiler alert: hope is the “treasure of our faith” that’s the focus of this Sunday’s sermon and worship service.)

What gives you hope? Where does hope come from? Are some people naturally inclined to be more hopeful than others? How can we get more of it when we need it?

We all might answer any of those questions in a hundred different ways, but here at PCM, I see hope embodied in the people of our congregation – and our young people, in particular.

I see hope in our confirmands – five 8th graders who, you may have noticed, have been serving on the Welcome Team over the last few months, as they learn about the various parts of our Reformed liturgy – and also what it means to serve. I’m excited for the chance to hang out with them after worship this coming Sunday and to share with them about the Sacrament of Holy Communion (which is another place I see hope in our church).

I see hope in our middle and high school students as they make plans for Youth Sunday next month and RISE this coming summer. I see it in the budding faith of our children, whose prayer requests during Sunday School, shared and lifted up during the Time with Young Christians, remind me that often the simplest petitions are best.

I see hope lived out through the ministries of our amazing staff; in the generosity of PCM folks who are contributing to One Great Hour of Sharing and our Spring Break Food Kit Drive; in the work of our Vision Team; in the joy of all church dinners; in the desire to become a more broadly inclusive congregation; in the number of church members who offered to step up and volunteer when I spoke about the increased population of unsheltered people in our community…

Even when hope may feel hard to find in the world around us, it’s everywhere in this place. It’s truly a treasure of our faith. And I hope you find it here, too.

In Christ’s love,
Daniel
