On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 4:00 PM, the African-American Clergy Association of Morris County and Morris Area Interfaith Clergy Council will host Let Love Speak: A Vigil in Support of Our Beloved Community, a peaceful interfaith gathering honoring Dr. King’s legacy of nonviolent public witness and responding to recent ICE enforcement actions in Morristown that have shaken immigrant families in our community.

Community members are invited to gather on the public sidewalks around the inner and outer perimeter of The Green in Morristown, holding phone flashlights, battery-operated candles, and handheld lights as symbols of care, presence, and shared humanity. From there, participants will walk together toward the corner of Speedwell Avenue and Henry Street, where neighbors were taken during recent ICE activity.

This vigil is held in the spirit of Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community, where every person is valued, protected, and treated with dignity. In a time when immigrant families in our town are living in fear, faith leaders say it is especially important to show up — visibly, peacefully, and together.

“Dr. King taught us that justice is love made public,” said Rev. Luana Cook Scott, lead pastor of Morristown United Methodist Church and a member of the Morris Area Interfaith Clergy Council. “On this sacred day, we gather to let love speak — standing with our immigrant neighbors and with all who are being made to feel afraid.”

The vigil will include shared songs, moments of prayer and silence, and a collective walk as a sign of unity and resolve.

All are welcome.
