Volunteer: Join PCM at the Juneteenth Festival of Morris County

We are so excited to participate in the Juneteenth Festival of Morris County once again on Saturday, June 15, presented by The Sankofa Heritage Collective of Morris County and Partners!

Schedule of Chapel Events:

  • 12:00 – 1:00 pm | Alliah L. Agostini | Author of The Juneteenth Story
Join us for an in-conversation followed by a Q&A with Alliah L. Agostini, the author of Black KidLit Award-winning The Juneteenth Story: Celebrating the End of Slavery in the United States, about Juneteenth’s origins and evolution and her connection to the holiday. Alliah is also the author of Junior Library Guild Selection BIG TUNE: Rise of the Dancehall Prince (starred reviews, Kirkus and Publisher’s Weekly), Oprah Winfrey: A Little Golden Book Biography, and The Juneteenth Cookbook.
  • 1:30 – 2:30 pm | Atlantic Health System AHS Crisis Counselor Lateefat Odunuga | Family-Centric Mental Health Discussion
Join us for a special read-aloud event featuring Atlantic Health Crisis Counselor Lateefat Odunuga. Ms. Odunuga will share insights and relatable experiences from her book, sparking an open conversation for adults and children. She will be joined by colleagues to explore the importance of honest communication within families to build stronger mental well-being.
  • 3:00 – 4:00 pm | Dr. Lillie Edwards | Infusing African Americans into K-12 Education: A Juneteenth Conversation: Presentation by Dr. Lillie Edwards on Infusing African Americans into K-12 Education: A Juneteenth Conversation
Celebrating Juneteenth invites us to examine how New Jersey’s Amistad legislation aims to infuse the history and culture of people of African descent into our K-12 classrooms. Dr. Lillie Johnson Edwards, Chair of the Amistad Commission of New Jersey, will lead a presentation and discussion on the legislation and its implications for school boards, administrators, teachers, students, and communities. Dr. Edwards is Professor Emerita of History & Africana Studies at Drew University.

Activities will take place at the PCM Chapel, as well as on the Green and Pioneer Plaza. We are looking for volunteers to help with the day’s activities! Click here for more details about the Festival.
